Cartography of Smallness

The publication Cartography of Smallness is the result of a homonymous series of workshops at the Vienna University of Technology, examining small-scale densification in (peri)urban spaces.

Intense housing densifies our cities, neighborhoods and settlements. But according to which principles does is alter our built environment? A look into other cultures and geographies provides insights and opportunities about small-scale densification strategies and developments. Why do minimal houses emerge in a metropolis like Tokyo? Which economic and social conditions and regulations promote, and which ones slow down, such dynamics of smallness? Are those also present in Vienna?
